REGISTRATION OF BIRTH & ISSUE OF PASSPORT TO NEW BORN CHILD

As per the provisions of the Citizenship Act, 1955 every person born outside India shall be a citizen of India.

if both the parents or either of them is an Indian citizen, provided his/her birth is registered at an Indian Mission/Post abroad within one year of the birth and the parents declare that the minor does not hold passport of another country.

Birth of every child born abroad, therefore, should be registered with the Embassy under Section 4(1) of the Citizenship Act, 1955, within one year from the date of birth of the child. Only after registration of birth as Indian citizen, the child becomes citizen of India and eligible for Passport or any other services rendered to Indian citizens.

Application for a new passport for an infant can be made along with the application for registration of birth. However, the application for issue of Passport will be processed after completion of formalities for registration of birth.

After filling the online application form, the applicant can schedule an appointment and visit the Embassy along with the required documents.

Required Documents for Birth Registration:

  • Printout of duly filled citizenship registration form under Section 4(1) of the Citizenship Act, 1955,
  • Original Birth certificate issued by Iranian authorities and official translation duly attested by the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs
  • Passport and residence permit of parents along with self attested photocopy
  • A copy of Marriage Certificate
  • Declaration letter that the child does not hold the passport of any other country.

Required Documents for issue of fresh passport to newborn:

  • Printout of duly filled online passport application form
  • 02 current photographs (Size: 51mm x 51 mm)
  • Passport and residence permit of parents along with self attested photocopy
  • Duly filled Annexure ‘D’ or Annexure ‘C’ (as the case may be)
